ARTS, CULTURE & HERITAGE

Deep Indigenous links, the Peppin Merino story, historic streetscapes and an exciting arts scene – a NSW heritage tourism experience like no other!

Deniliquin lies within the traditional lands of the Wamba Wamba and Perrepa Perrepa Nations and many places throughout the region contain evidence of this occupation. On 3 January 1840, the Edward River was discovered by Europeans and so began the story of its modern settlement..

Deniliquin and surrounds is renowned for its links with the Peppin Merino, and played an important part in the establishment of Australia’s Merino breeding and wool export industries.  You can read more about the Peppin story on the Peppin Heritage Centre page of this website.

Our strong ties to the rice industry are also evident, with Deniliquin being home to one of the largest and most sophisticated rice mills in the Southern Hemisphere. Find out about our involvement in Australia’s rice production on the Industry page of this website.

An exciting arts scene awaits visitors in Deniliquin, with public art, museums, galleries, travelling exhibitions and live performances being regular features on our events calendar. Our major event of the year, the Deni Ute Muster, never fails to provide an astounding line up of the best Australian and International music acts over the NSW Labor Day long weekend.

Immerse yourself in the interesting and exciting past, and arts and cultural scene of Deniliquin.
