Peppin Merino - Wanganella  

The Peppin family and their ties to the Australian Merino breeding and wool export industries is a significant part of Deniliquin and districts history. The family’s station at Wanganella, just outside of Deniliquin, is where they bred a robust Merino whose bloodline is now present in nearly 90% of all Australian Merinos and was responsible for cementing Australia’s reputation as a quality wool exporter. A bronze merino ram was erected by the owners near the gate of Wanganella Station, and stands as a monument to the contribution made to prosperity of Australia by the Peppin family.

The monument is located in a public area and can be viewed at all times.

Driving Directions: Leave the Deniliquin Visitor Information Centre and cross over the bridge heading north along Davidson street. At the roundabout, take the Hay road and travel for about 30 minutes and the Merino is on your right.
